BBCI signs MoU for collaborative research

GUWAHATI, July 24 - The Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) and the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) today signed an MoU with the aim to kick-start collaborative research programmes.

The MoU was signed by the Director of BBCI, Dr AC Kataki and Director IASST Dr NC Talukdar in the presence of faculties from the Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research, various research institutions and universities of the north-eastern states and faculties from both the institutes.

The BBCI is a recognised institute for cancer treatment and research, rendering services to the population of the whole of north-east India. The IASST is engaged in multi-disciplinary research activities, both in fundamental and applied fields, spread across five programmes: basic and applied plasma physics, advanced materials science, mathematical and computational sciences, biodiversity and ecosystem research, and traditional knowledge-based drug development and delivery.

�This collaboration will have a synergistic effect on research pursuits and outcome in the area of human healthcare in general and cancer research in particular,� Dr Kataki said.

The agreement also envisages establishing close linkage and functional coordination between the BBCI and IASST and making joint efforts in conducting research, training and consultancy in the areas of health in India and abroad and facilitating generation of fund jointly for this purpose by both parties.

�The MoU is an important step forward to reciprocate mutual cooperation by the two institutes in the development of new experimental/research facilities in both the institutes and also to exchange ideas and expertise between scientists of the institutes for this purpose,� Dr Kataki said.
