GUWAHATI, March 3 - Former noted basketball player Dinesh Saikia passed away today in a local hospital.
An employee of the NF Railway, Saikia (57) was a leading basketball player of the State who participated in national championships at both junior and senior level for 17 times.
He was a leading official of the Basketball Association of Assam and presently he was the chairman of the technical committee and an executive panel member.
A popular organiser among the basketball players of the State, Saikia originally hailed from Nagaon. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters. The State sporting fraternity condoled the untimely demise of Saikia.
