PATACHARKUCHI, Aug 13 - Barpeta MP Abdul Khalek of the Congress has assured of carrying out developmental work for the betterment of the people.
Addressing a public meeting at Niz Sariha here, Khalek said the people have lost faith in politicians due to their nature of giving false promises.
�We should be careful while giving any assurance to the people. Moreover, we must finish our work in a time-bound manner,� he said. The MP criticised the BJP government for its alleged failure in taking up developmental work for the poor people.
�The people are facing a plethora of problems, including price rise. The law and order situation has also deteriorated,� he said.
The MP also asked the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta to prepare a proposal covering infrastructure development in the area.
Later, a local committee submitted a proposal to the MP urging him to upgrade the railway station and construction of roads.
The MP was accompanied by APCC Barpeta district president Santanu Sarma, party leader Girish Patgiri, Bajali Congress block president Arun Das and Rakesh Chakrabarty.
