PATACHARKUCHI, April 4 - With the filing of nominations by Kumar Dipak Das from AGP-BJP-BPF alliance, Abdul Khaleque from Congress and Dr Hafiz Rafiqul Islam from AIUDF, besides some Independent candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls for No.6 Barpeta HPC, the contest will be mainly a triangular one among Congress, AGP-BJP-BPF alliance and AIUDF this time.

AGP-BJP-BPF alliance candidate Kumar Dipak Das said that in the last general election, the BJP candidate lost the seat by a margin of around 40,000 votes by contesting without the support of AGP and BPF. But this time he will win the poll with the support of BPF and AGP, Das added.

Before filing the nomination paper yesterday, he took out a huge procession which was participated by party leaders like Ranjit Kumar Dass, Atul Bora, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Biswajit Doimary, Gunindra Das, Pabindra Das, Bhupen Roy, Phani Pathak and several supporters of the alliance.

Das expressed the hope that the Hindu Bengali voters will vote in favour of him this time. Atul Bora and other leaders of the alliance also expressed their confidence in Das and said he would win this time by a huge margin.

Dr Hafiz Rafiqul Islam also took out a huge procession while filing his nomination paper. AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal also expressed his confidence in Islam and said that he will do well in this poll.

In 2014 elections, the AIDUF secured 32.73% votes to register victory in the constituency. AIUDF candidate Sirajuddin Ajmal won the seat by securing 394,702 votes.

This seat was won two times by CPI (M) candidate Uddhab Barman.

The BJP-led alliance alleged that a secret understanding has been hatched between AIUDF and Congress party for the ensuing elections. Interestingly, AIUDF chief Ajmal has also declared that the party will field candidates for seats like Dhubri, Karimganj and Barpeta.

Kumar Dipak Das has said that Khaleque is not a factor for him in the elections. But it is sure that the Congress party will try hard to regain the seat. Barpeta constituency is formed with ten Assembly constituencies covering Barpeta, Nalbari and Bongaigaon districts.
