Barpeta dist admin takes precautionary measures against coronavirus

PATACHARKUCHI, March 14 - In view of the rapid spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the world, the Barpeta district administration has taken strong initiatives and precautionary measures to combat the menace. The administration has prepared rapid response teams in the district. Isolated wards, two each in Barpeta District Civil Hospital at Kalgachia and Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital at Barpeta have been kept ready for emergency services. Around 100 beds have been kept ready in various hospitals under the district for any emergency service. Two ambulances have been kept ready for the purpose.

An emergency meeting on disaster management was held yesterday in the district headquarters and there was a discussion on the present situation though no case of coronavirus has been detected in the State so far. The administration is ready to cope up with any situation relating to the spread of the dreaded virus. Hoardings are being installed in various places in order to make people aware about the symptoms of the virus infection. The administration is planning to instal more hoardings in various corners of the district. Besides these, flex banners have been displayed in various CHCs, BPHCs and circle offices, leaflets are also being distributed in public places so that people become aware about it. Block-level awareness meetings have also been conducted to generate awareness in the district. Control rooms have been set up in the district and people have been requested to inform immediately about any incident in the toll free number 1077. Social media like Whatsapp and Facebook are also being used to spread the message. Bulk SMS are also being posted in the district for precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, managements of hotels and lodges in the district have been ordered to maintain records and inform about visit of foreigners. Munindra Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta has appealed to the people not to be afraid of the disease and avoid public gathering. Special teams of doctors have been kept ready in the district. The DIPRO of Barpeta Bikash Sarma informed that cleanliness drive is continuing in various towns and municipal areas.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education), Barpeta has also served emergency notices to various institutions under the district. The head teachers of institutions, having more than 100 students, were ordered to arrange for common prayer inside their schools.

In the case of mid-day meal scheme, school authorities were requested to take extreme care in cooking and distribution of meal among students in a hygienic way. The cooks were ordered to wear masks during the period of cooking and distribution of meal. The school heads were also ordered to inform any case of cough and fever to the nearest hospital.

Our Barpeta Correspondent adds: A physian couple working in Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College here have been put under quarantine and their health condition is being monitored regularly. The couple � Khurshid Alam Hussain and Rubeina Hussain � had visited Dubai recently keeping the hospital authority in the dark and joined the Medical College on March 11 after their return from Dubai on the March 9.
