Baroda crush Assam in T20 encounter

GUWAHATI, Jan 2 - Assam suffered a 49-run defeat at the hands of Baroda in their opening Group C league match of the Syed Mustaq Ali Inter State T20 match.

At the Reliance Cricket Stadium, Vadodara today, in reply to host team�s 164 for eight in 20 overs, Assam were 116 for nine.

Former Team India pacer Irfan Pathan wrecked the Assam innings with a five wicket haul for 13. Baring Syed Mohammed (not out 42), Abu Nechim Ahmed (20) and Amit Sinha (17) other Assam batsmen even failed to reach double figure.

Earlier, electing to bat first, Kedar Devdhar 48, Deepak J Hooda not out 47 took Baroda to a fighting total of 164. Spinner Syed Mohammed and Abu Nechim Ahmed captured two wickets each.
