Barbayan to perform in Paris, London

GUWAHATI, April 28 � Renowned Sattriya exponent Bhabananda Barbayan, who has taken this Vaishnavite culture to the world community, will design a dance performance based on the unique movements captured on the textile masterpieces known as Vrindavani Vastra.

The Musee National Des Arts Asiatiques, Guimet of Paris and Victoria and Albert Museum of London have invited Barbayan to study the textile masterpieces in possession of both the museums. These textiles date back to 15th-16th century and were commissioned by a royalty of Cooch Behar and woven by Assamese weavers under the guidance of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Mahapurush Madhabdev.

Barbayan will leave for Paris and London on April 29 and will study the textile and subsequently design a performance with the help of the students of Paris 8 University.

Barbayan will also present his solo dance at Mandapa centre of Paris, Tanzer centre of Tolouse, Nimes, Montpellier and Rodez city. Apart from these he will also give lessons at Paris 8 University.
