Barak valley under tight security

BADARPUR, Sept 23 � In view of the pronouncement of the verdict on the Ayodhya issue, scheduled for tomorrow, the Karimganj district administration has made tight security arrangements to avert any communal flare-up.

This was stated by the new Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Jiten Bargowari, who recently took charge from the outgoing DC, Dr M Angamuthu. Bargowari said that he has already ordered deployment of additional forces in sensitive places of the district including the railway town, Badarpur.

The district has been brought under a tight security blanket, said Karimganj SP Vishnu Kanta Rava. Talking to this correspondent, the SP said that necessary instructions have been sent to all the police stations in the district to keep tight watch on the situation.

Meanwhile, the DIG of the Southern Assam Range, AYV Krishna told this correspondent that all three districts of the Barak Valley, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, have been regarded as sensitive by the Government.

The Government has taken all necessary steps and made precautionary arrangements in the valley, said the DIG. Krishna added that additional forces have already been deployed in various sensitive places in the Barak valley. These include the CRPF, Assam Police Battalion, DGP�s reserve platoon forces, etc. Although the DIG did not specify the total number of forces deployed, he claimed that it was sufficient. He informed that necessary instructions have been given to the village defence parties, municipality, town committee and CLGs of police stations in this regard.
