Barak Valley to get Rs 500 cr for road facelift: Himanta

SILCHAR, July 24 - In a major move, State Finance, PWD and Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced a package of Rs 500 crore for a major facelift of the dilapidated roads of Barak Valley.

The PWD Minister made this announcement while addressing a meeting during the inauguration of the Kanaklata Women Empowerment Scheme at the Karimganj DSA.

Further, the Finance Minister said that each SHGs of the State will get up to Rs 5 lakh based of their performances and informed that government is taking steps to provide old age pension to senior citizens in the State from October 2 this year.

�Three new medical colleges including one at Karimganj will be set up in the State and the process will kick start from March next year,� the Health Minister maintained.

The function witnessed a large turnout of women belonging to SHGs in the district. Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development Naba Kumar Doley, Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and State BJP president Ranjit Dass also attended the function.
