Barak Valley registers poor show in HSLC results

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, May 15: In what could be called a poor performance, Barak Valley had not much to cheer about in this year's High School Leaving Certificate Examination, the results of which were declared on Wednesday. No student could make it to the merit list this year.

In Cachar district, of the 18072 candidates, only 9089 students could pass registering a pass percentage of 50.29 percent. As many as 1916 students passed in 1st division, 2737 candidates passed in the 2nd division and 4436 passed in 3rd division. Interestingly, this year's results had a strange dip of 0.49 percent from 2018 when 50.78 pass percentage was registered. In 2017, only 32.49 percent students had cleared the examination.

Karimganj district registered a pass percentage of 46.73 percent as 4,777 students cleared the examination out of 10,223 candidates across the district.

Meanwhile, Hailakandi has cut a sorry figure in the results sheet as out of 6,629 candidates appearing in the examination 2586 students passed registering 39.01 pass percentage. In 2018, Hailakandi scored 51.41 pass percentage.
