Barak Valley folk musicians to be honoured

GUWAHATI, July 19 - Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee of the Bengali band Dohar is nothing less than a legend in folk music. A son of Barak Valley, he has taken the folk music of the North-east to the world stage. He will be honoured with the Cultural Ambassador of the North East Award by the Byatikram Group.

As in the last five years, this year too the Byatikram Group will be honouring some achievers of the North-east, including Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee.

The founder of the KPC Group Dr Kali Pradip Chaudhuri will be given the Byatikram Man of the Year Award. The award, Fastest Growing Brand of North East will be given to Dalmia Bharat Cement.

The recipient of this year�s Byatikram Literary Award will be neighbouring State Meghalaya�s Bishwajit Nandi. The Entrepeneur of the Year Award will be given to the creator of Biomed Dr Ranabir Paul.

On behalf of Byatikram, a jury of 10 people has chosen the awardees. The award ceremony will be held on July 25 at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre, Machkhowa from 5 pm.

It needs to be mentioned that Parvathy Baul, an artiste who has taken Baul music to new heights, will be the main attraction of the event. Assam�s rising Bharatnatyam exponent Jahnabi Choudhuri will also be performing on the occasion.

Dr Saumen Bharatiya and Pintu Gupta, on behalf of the organisers said, �For the last five years Byatikram awards are being given on the anniversary of Vicky Publishers. These awards are only for achievers from the North-east. We also invite internationally acclaimed artistes to perform in the event. Local artistes also perform along with them on the same stage. Thus a bond is created between the North-east and the world culture along with the spread of our own culture, traditions and heritage to the outside world.�
