GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - A delegation of the North East Linguistic and Ethnic Co-Ordination Committee (NELECC) from the Barak Valley today met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and discussed various issues, particularly the ongoing NRC update process.
Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary (Home) LS Changsan and State BJP president Ranjeet Dass were also present at the meeting.
The delegation handed over a memorandum and discussed for about 45 minutes various matters related to the NRC, the plight of D-voters and detainees who are in detention camps.
�The meeting was very fruitful and the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to immediately visit Silchar and all the districts of Assam to address the concerns of the people there,� an official source said.
The delegation requested the CM to organise the State VDP Sammelan at Silchar next year. Appreciating the work of VDP in Cachar district, the CM agreed to the proposal.
The NELECC team comprised Ashit Dutta, Shubrangshu Sekhar Bhattacharjee, Asish Haldar, Rabijit Chakraborty, Santanu Naik, Manna Bhattacharjee, Dharmananda Deb, Subash Das, Joydeep Dutta and Prof Abhijit Nath.
