By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Sept 26 - Amidst the exasperating hot weather, people across Barak Valley are all set to celebrate the Durga Puja.

This year around 2500 Pujas are being held across the three districts of Barak Valley.

The sultry heat together with irritating powercuts have made life difficult for the shoppers. But, the spirit of Durga Puja is above any mundane thing and we hope the festive days will be spent in harmony, said Diksha Sen, a teenager from Ambikapatty.

A number of big-budget Pujas mandaps including Kalibari Road Sarbajanin Durga Puja committee at Udharband was inaugurated on the Maha Panchami evening on Monday. Pratham Palli Club at Tarapur is celebrating golden jubilee year of Puja celebrations. Other major attractions for the Puja revellers in the city include idols made from wood at the pandal of All Medical Sales Peoples Puja committee and Daylight Club with 100 hands of Goddess Durga. Tarapur Rice Mill Puja Committee is celebrating 71 years of Puja this year and the organisers are confident of drawing a good crowd during the Puja celebrations.

However, according to sources, the forecast during the Puja days is not encouraging. There is a possibility of rain across Barak Valley on Thursday and Friday, a source at the District Disaster Management Authority here informed.

Cachar SP Rakesh Raushan has said that security arrangements have been beefed up across the district and ensured that people here can enjoy a safe and secured Durga Puja.
