Barak Valley and Hills Commissionerate

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, May 5 Brushing aside the accusations made by the Cachar Transport Vehicle Owners Association (CTVOA) against the Cachar district administration of land grabbing, Hailakandi MLA and former minister Gautam Roy clarified that the Commissionerate of the Barak Valley and Hills would be set up in Silchar.

The Commissionerate will be set up in the land reverted from the CTVOA. He also said that other important offices like that of the PWD Additional Chief Engineer and the Additional Commissioner of Transport would also be set up in the same campus.

The detailed project report for the proposed Commissionerate is under preparation and a sum of Rs 2 crore from the Chief Ministers promised package of Rs 1,000 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose. As a minister, I could not do many things despite my desire. But now I am relieved of that responsibility and therefore, I am committed towards the development of Silchar, Roy told media persons.

Claiming transparency during his tenure as the Minister of Land Revenue, Roy maintained that not a single inch of land was allotted to any of his kin. He assured that the present plot of land, measuring three bighas and 14 kathas, would be utilised for the development of the town.

Taking digs at the BJP, its Smart City project and Mahasadak for the people of Silchar, Roy, who is now the adviser to the Chief Minister, quipped that the BJP is known for dishing out sugar-coated dreams. These two much-hyped projects will never materialise, he added.
