Barak media cricket fest begins

SILCHAR, Jan 19 - The sixth edition of the Media Cricket Fest organised by the Barak Upottyokya Krira Sangbadik Sanstha in association with Jookto organisation and Chhotto Prochesta got off to a glittering start on Friday with Abeg News Rockers handsomely winning the first match of the tournament by 88 runs against Shipras Karimganj Press Club Strikers at SM Dev Stadium here.

Abeg News Rockers scored 140 losing three wickets opting to bat first. Aniruddha Laskar (35) and Shyam Singha (38) were their leading run getters. Chasing the target, the whole team of Shipras Karimganj Press Club Strikers were bundled out for 52 runs in 12.3 overs.

In another match, Aminaaz Khobor Heroes defeated Dreams Hailakandi Press Club Challengers by 6 runs. Batting first, Aminaaz Khobor Heroes scored 114 runs for four wickets in 15 overs and in reply Hailakandi managed to score 108 runs losing 8 wickets.

Earlier, the invited guests including Joydip Das, silver medallist in Asian Games and Subimal Bhattacharjee, director of Jookto, the title sponsor of the cricket fest got introduced to the players along with other dignitaries. It may be mentioned that the Barak Upottyokya Krira Sangbadik Sanstha has brought new changes to the annual cricket fest by involving franchises to own the participating teams from Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. The finals of the tournament will be played at the same venue on January 24.
