Barak festival concludes

IMPHAL, Dec 15 - The 2nd state-level Barak Festival-2019 concluded on Saturday night at Barak Hall, in Senapati district. The festival saw participation of people from the neighbouring states.

Cultural shows, beauty contests, dance and song competitions were held during the annual festival which began on December 12.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister, Yumnam Joykumar Singh participating in the closing function said that the festival �reminds us� the importance of river system in human existence. The Deputy Chief Minister further said that acknowledging the importance of conserving Barak river, the state government has been trying to make it more popular.

Joykumar Singh said, catchment areas of the river should be protected by avoiding deforestation . �This festival also gives us a chance to showcase the rich cultural heritage and old traditions, �he added.

Participating in the function, TA and Hills Minister N Kayisii said that although the annual festival started few years back, it is becoming more important as it �gives us� a strong message to make aware of the importance of Barak River. He further said that organizing this festival will also give the people a chance to showcase their rich culture.

Expressing concern over the influence of western culture to the society, the Minister said that this festival �reminds us� the importance of preserving the rich culture and traditional values.
