Barada C Sarma passes away

GUWAHATI, July 6 � Barada Charan Sarma, former DGP of Assam breathed his last at his residence at Silpukhuri at 6:45 am today due to old-age ailment. He was 89.

He leaves behind his wife Bani Sarma, a daughter and two sons.

An IPS of the 1953 batch of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Sarma had also served as the DIG (CID) Assam; Director, BIEO; IG, BSF, North East, and in several other capacities.

Born on March 1, 1929, Sarma completed his primary education at Sivasagar. He had also studied at the Cotton College and Presidency College, Kolkata. Having a brilliant academic record, Sarma was a founding teacher of the Don Bosco School, Guwahati.

His last rites were performed at the Navagraha crematorium toady where a number of his friends and admirers bade adieu to him.

Having a flare for writing, he founded the North East Forum, a journal that focussed on the issues concerning the North-east region. A collection of the editorials written by him in the journal was also published as a book titled Editor�s Editorial.
