GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - A delegation of the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, etc., led by its chairman HRA Choudhury today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighting various problems faced by the practicing advocates in the State.

The bar council urged the Chief Minister to release Rs 5 crore which was sanctioned by the State government in 2016, and to sanction and release a sum of Rs 25 crore as a corpus fund to the Assam Advocates Welfare Fund (AAWF), besides earmarking Rs 5 crore in the annual budget for AAWF.

The delegation also demanded payment of at least Rs 10,000 per month as financial assistance to the needy advocates from the government�s contingency fund till the courts resume normal functioning, and to bring the practicing lawyers under the purview of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
