Bar associations stage protest in Dhubri, Kokrajhar

DHUBRI, Aug 13 - Hundreds of members of the Dhubri Bar Association on Thursday sat in a demonstration in front of the District Court demanding resumption of family court and reopening of the Bar Association.

The Association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India for restarting physical functioning of courts under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court and reopening of the Bar rooms and offices.

NI Choudary, former president of the All Assam Lawyers� Association and member of the Bar Council of North East said, �When every institution is opening, why not Bars and the physical courts?�

He said that due to closure of the Bar, the advocates of the state, specially in Dhubri district, are facing innumerable financial issues.

KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the State, the Kokrajhar Bar Association also staged a one-hour sit-in demonstration in front of the District and Sessions Court in Kokrajhar on Thursday, demanding resumption of physical courts and reopening of the offices of the Bar Associations.

The demonstration was organised by the Kokrajhar Bar Association as per direction of the Bar Council of Assam.

A large numbers of advocates of the Kokrajhar Bar Association took part in the demonstration by maintaining physical distance and other protocol due to the COVID-19 situation.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Bar Council of India and Bar Council of Assam through the District and Sessions Judge of Kokrajhar.

It may be mentioned here that after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the functioning of regular courts came to a halt by a notification issued by the Gauhati High Court.
