Banks� participation in Ambubachi discussed

GUWAHATI, June 16 - A meeting of top bank officials was held today in the city under the chairmanship of the Lead District Manager of Kamrup Metro to discuss ways regarding the participation of the banks in the ensuing Ambubachi Mela, especially from the point of view of financial literacy and financial inclusion.

The meeting also discussed issues relating to the necessary support that can be provided by banks for successful holding of the Mela, said an official statement.

Sudip Dhar, Lead District Manager of Kamrup Metro, asked the banks to install temporary coin vending machines in selected locations provided by the district administration for benefit of pilgrims and visitors to the event.

He also asked the banks to take all necessary steps to maintain uninterrupted ATM service in the entire city as it is expected that nearly 20 to 25 lakh pilgrims and visitors will be in Guwahati during the period of the Ambubachi Mela.

Further, Dhar asked those banks that are operating ATM service at the Kamakhya Railway Station, Maligaon, Adabari-Pandu Rest Camp, Kamakhya hill top and Bharalu localities to take special care on the matter and ensure feeding of sufficient small currency notes in the ATMs operating in those places.
