Banks asked to improve credit flow to farmers

TEZPUR, Sept 8 - Laying stress on the need to double farmers� incomes by 2022, in line with the Prime Minister�s, Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar has directed all banks to improve the credit flow to farmers under KCC and other farmer-related schemes, and appealed to the bankers to work for the uplift of the poor and marginal people.

Reviewing the implementation of various government schemes for farmers during the District Development Committee meeting for the month of September, the Deputy Commissioner asked the DDM, NABARD and the Lead District Manager along with the Agriculture department officials to step up IEC activities among the farmers and highlight that KCC loans can be availed at 0% interest from banks in order to encourage more farmers to come forward to avail such loans. He also asked them to ensure thorough publicity about the newly-launched pension scheme for small and marginal farmers holding at least 2 hectares of land � Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the District Social Welfare Officer to look into complaints against certain officials of the department and initiate action against anyone found guilty. He also directed the PWD Roads officials to ensure proper maintenance of the roads. Issues related to mid-day meals, loan disbursement to beneficiaries under Swayam, MUDRA, construction of IHHL for left-out beneficiaries, household electricity connections, health camps in flood-affected areas, parking in Tezpur town, etc., were discussed during the course of the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner asked all departmental officials to work earnestly and meet the targets well ahead of the deadlines. Heads of various government departments and bank officials were present in the meeting.
