Bangladesh Govt to host film fest in Tripura

AGARTALA, Sept 14 - For the first time, the Bangladesh Government will sponsor a three-day film festival in Tripura from September 15 to 17. The film festival, scheduled to commence from 4.30 pm at the Rabindra Shatavarshiki Bhawan here, will be opened by Bangladesh Information and Culture Minister Hasan Mehmud. Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma will be the guest of honour.

This was announced to the media at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission office here by Assistant High Commissioner Kirit Chakma today. He said the film festival was aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.

The media interaction was also attended by the Deputy High Commission�s First Secretary Md Jakir Hossain Bhuiyan and Second Secretary SM Asaduzzoman.

According to the festival schedule drawn up by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission authority, altogether 20 films produced and directed in Bangladesh will be screened. These include acclaimed films like Amader Bangabandhu directed by Md A Al Harun, Jage Pran Patakay Jatiyo Sangite directed by Saiful Islam, Guerrilla by Nasiruddin, Postmaster 71 by Russel Haque and Jannat by Salim Bhuiyan.

Bangladesh is better known for its plays, but films produced in that country have not made much impact. However, the 20 films to be shown here are among the best and have set standards in terms of cinematography.
