Bangla migrants issue rocks LS

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, April 11 - The problem of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh today rocked the Lok Sabha, with the members demanding constitution of a commission by the Centre to identify the districts that have witnessed demographic change.

While the BJP MPs called on the Centre to determine ways to deport the illegal Bangladeshi migrants, the Congress MPs favoured granting them refugee status.

Moving a Zero Hour notice, BJP MP from Jharkhand Nishikant Dubey said that illegal infiltration from Bangladesh has become a major problem. It has grown to such a proportion that illegal infiltrators are snatching away employment opportunities, he claimed.

In Assam, West Bengal and Tripura the demographic pattern has changed, the MP said, adding that illegal infiltration was not religion-based. Some illegal infiltrators are involved in all kinds of illegal activities, including terrorism and it has happened so as the Indo-Bangladesh border is open, said the Jharkhand MP.

Asserting that illegal infiltrators no longer confine themselves to procuring ration cards, Dubey alleged that they have now managed to get Aadhaar cards as well. He also referred to the Supreme Courts verdict in the Sarbananda Sonowals case and observed that many of the directions have not been implemented.
