DHAKA, June 9 The Bangladesh government has asked its counterpart in India to introduce visa on arrival facility at Dawki (Meghalaya) for the passengers travelling from Dhaka to make the Dhaka-Guwahati bus service feasible.
It has also drawn the attention of the Ministry of External Affairs (India) to withdraw the Restricted Area Permit that is in force in North-east India.
The issue of restricted area permit was discussed between the two countries after the passengers who were part of the maiden bus trip from Dhaka were initially not allowed rooms after reaching Guwahati on Sunday.
It was only after the intervention by authorities from both countries that the Bangladeshi nationals were allowed to check in by the hotel management in Guwahati.
The Bangladesh government was planning to begin the bus service from July 1 on a regular basis, but it now says that the service will begin only after the issues related to passengers safety and comfort are settled with the Indian government.
