Bandh hits Bogibeel works

SILAPATHAR, Jan 7 � The indefinite Bogibeel project bandh called by TMPK and AASU affected the normal works of construction of Bogibeel project today. During the bandh, construction works of main post of Bogibeel bridge, NH-52B, NF railway, etc. were disrupted. The vehicles of Bogibeel bridge project remained off the roads.

The bandh was given in protest against the low quality construction, use of low standard materials and incident of bridge collapse at Mechaki. At least 150 labourers of the locality received injuries on January 6 at 2.40 pm,when RCC bridge of NH 52B,constructed by M S Raithani under Bogibeel project collapsed in the construction site at Mechaki under Silapathar PS.

The TMPK and AASU demanded high level enquiries into the entire project, action against irregularities, rehabilitation, compensation and medical treatment to the affected labourers. The TMPK and AASU decided to continue the bandh of Bogibeel project untill high level enquiries and compensation.

The activists of TMPK and AASU locked the office of Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction), NF Railway, Silapathar, today. The DC of Dhemaji, MS Manivannan, visited the site and assured the general public of a high level enquiry.

The police arrested three persons including Raj Kr Mandhyan,Asst. superviser of Silapathar slab factory, Romesh Ch. Mandal NFR, and Dijendra Borthakur, senier section engineer, NFR. At present 19 labourers are under treatment at Dibrugarh.
