Bandh evokes mixed response

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Aug 16 The 12-hour Assam bandh called by All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) in protest against the killing of Assamese people in Golaghat districts Assam-Nagaland border, evoked mixed response in the city here as most of the business establishments remained opened.

Barring commercial transport vehicles, all other modes of transport plied on the roads. Educational institutions and government offices too remained unaffected.

Meanwhile, the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) activists today staged a demonstration near Chowkidinghee intersection here and burnt simultaneously the effigies of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Parliamentary Secretary of Home Department, Atuwa Munda in protest against the failure of the State Government to prevent attacks on Assamese people in Assam-Nagaland borders.

ATTSA has criticised the Tarun Gogoi led State Government for their lukewarm response to the violence in Uriamghat area of Golaghat district. They demanded that the government must act or quit on moral grounds.
