GOLAKGANJ, June 13 � Dhubri ADC Bhogeswar Shyam, Joint Director Sushil Chandra Das, Food Director Nayan Kumar Das and the police conducted a drive and seized over 9,000 bananas made to ripen with the help of carbide.
Sources said that these bananas were being sold in the market since the last several days. Vendors buy raw bananas and ripen them with the help of carbide, after which they are sold in the market. Several public complaints in this regard led to the current drive.
The seized bananas were kept at two godowns in the Dhubri market. Samples have been taken for further tests. The Food Inspector said that the seized bananas would be destroyed. The total cost of these bananas will be more than Rs 1 lakh.
