BAN urges NNPGs for tax exemption

By Newmai News

DIMAPUR, Oct 7 - Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has requested the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to be considerate to Naga entrepreneurs and businessmen and exempt them from any form of taxation. The BAN also requested the Government of India to expedite the peace process and find a solution to the vexed Naga problem.

In a statement, the BAN said, With festive season nearing it is a common trend to see an upsurge in tax demands by different groups. According to BAN, it has come to the knowledge of the Business Association of Nagas that a well known, iconic and genuine Naga businessman and entrepreneur has recently been asked to pay a huge amount as yearly tax. The group had also downed the shutters of his business establishment, it stated, while adding, Such demands and acts are uncalled for and BAN strongly condemns it.

BAN appreciated some NNPGs for their decision to exempt Naga entrepreneurs from taxation, and have understood that imposing tax on our own brothers and sisters is counterproductive and will have negative impact on the upcoming Naga entrepreneurs.

BAN appealed to the NNPGs who have not exempted Naga entrepreneurs to come into the fold and earn the goodwill of the Naga people.

BAN also said it would like to reaffirm on the public resolution of One Government, One Tax. Multiple taxation is a constant harassment to the business community and also causes price rise, it stated.
