GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - The Bagarbori Asomi Mahila Samity, one of the oldest women�s organisations of the city, in its meeting held today, strongly criticised the �male chauvinist� attitude of some elements of the Barpeta Kirtan Ghar who blocked the entry of women into the place of worship for the last three centuries, belittling the Constitutional and basic human rights of the women folk of the State in particular and country in general.
The Samity, during the meeting held today under the presidentship of Urmila Chakravarty, appealed to the people of the State to uphold the basic rights of women devotees.
The Samity also condoled the death of former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Mahim Bora and described him as one of the strongest exponents of the fundamental rights of women.
