Ban on illegal trades sought

DIBRUGARH, May 7 - At least six organisations in the town have asked the district administration to check unauthorised trades in the district like transport of illegal timber, coal, cattle, silt, oil and rice etc., stating that such illegal activities were resulting in various environmental and social disturbances.

The organisations, which include the Chatra Mukti Sangram Sammittee, Tai Ahom Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Sadou Asom Koiborto Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Asomiya Yuva Mancha, All Assam Muslim Yuva Parishad and Asom Anusuchitjati Yuva Chatra Sanstha jointly placed a representation before the district administration here, seeking an immediate halt to all forms of illegal trades in the district including gambling.

The organisations have also asked the administration to sanction an order so that all loaded goods irrespective of kinds are transported without covering their respective vehicle hoods for visibility of the goods. The organisations have alleged that some traders were supplying timber to the saw mills at night while others were engaged in transporting cattle illegally.
