JORHAT, Jan 14 � Noted researcher of Tiwa language and culture, well-known Assamese litterateur of the Ramdhenu era and a skilled musician Bolai Ram Senapati of Bakorigaon, Barapujia in Marigaon district has been selected for the �Bakul Bon Award 2011�.
This was declared by Samiran Bordoloi, president of Bakul Bon Trust at Radhakanta Handique Bhavan here today. The award has been instituted by the Bakul Bon Trust, Assam. The Bakul Bon Award carries Rs 10,000 in cash and a citation.
The Bakul Bon Award is conferred every year in memory of �Bakul Bonor Kabi� Ananda Chandra Barua and his better half Pramila Barua. The name of the winner is declared at Uruka, the eve of Magh Bihu.
A press release from the Bakul Bon Trust stated that the award conferred on experts in the fields of dancing, music, art and literature who dedicate themselves towards preservation and promulgation of the art, folk-culture and literature of the aboriginal people of the region.
The award will be given to Senapati on January 27, the death anniversary of Ananda Chandra Barua at the centrally organised �Bakul Bon Divas� at Radhakanta Handique Bhavan here.
The octogenarian litterateur Senapati is the son of late Bagaram Senapati and late Padmeswari Senapati. He started his career as a teacher in 1953 at Bormal LP school in Karbi-Anglong district. But he gave up the job in 1963 and engaged himself in the development works in the Tiwa society and culture.
Senapati�s first book Mukul containing Tiwa songs was published in 1954. He discussed the distinguished features of Tiwa language and culture through his writings in Ramdhenu in 1953. His contribution in the formation of the Barapujia Tiwa Krishti Santha is remarkable. He has been rendering yeoman service towards establishing the Tiwa language in written form.
He also translated the sonnets of Shakespeare and a drama of Jean Paul Sartre into Assamese. His writings are still shining in the pages of magazines like Ramdhenu, Sadinia Asamiya, Amar Pratinidhi, Nava Yug and Garayasi.
Senapati�s two famous collections of essays are Atitar Sandhanat and Panchu Rojiya Anchalar Loka Gitar Uparat Samanya Alukpat. His compositions like Nagar Naruttam Gosai, Sriram, Phulgurir Dhewa, Bhoiyamat Tiwa Sakalar Loka Sanskriti, Heruwa Dinar Sur Bichari have been broadcast on several occasions by AIR centres of Guwahati and Nagaon. He is also a regular radio-artist.
Senapati was also president of �Tiwa Mathon Lai Tokhra� (Tiwa Sahitya Sabha) and was a specially invited member of Asam Sahitya Sabha, stated the press release.
