By Correspondent

AGARTALA, July 28 - Taking a serious note of the vandalisation of the statue of former Dy Chief Minister Baidyanath Majumder at Kailashahar, the BJP Government in Tripura on Friday said a new statue of the late Communist leader will be installed at the same site.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also asked the CID to undertake a probe into the shocking incident to ensure punishment to those who are involved in the condemnable act.

Informing the media about the CMs directions, Nitish Dey, a senior BJP leader said the Chief Minister and the party State president have authorised me to convey the partys decision to the public.

The Chief Minister is shocked over the incident of removal of Majumders statue in Unakoti district sparking widespread resentment among people irrespective of political colours, Dey said at a press conference at Kailashahar BJP party office.

Dey clarified that the party will build a statue of late leader Majumder on its own to show respect to the veteran Marxist leader. CID will undertake investigation into the case and two persons have already been arrested. The party wants the guilty should get exemplary punishment for committing such condemnable act, he added.

The statue of the former Dy Chief Minister was removed and reportedly thrown in river Manu by unknown miscreants on Wednesday. All political parties including CPI(M), Congress and BJP have condemned the act and sought punishment for the guilty persons.
