NALBARI, Oct 26 - With the Festival of Lights round-the-corner, the artisans of Bahjani area in Nalbari district are all set to attract the revellers and light up Diwali night with their traditional crackers.
For Diwali, the local artisans of Bahjani are busy in their traditional manufacture of fireworks since over a month now.
The artisans of Bahjani area have been engaged in this traditional work since generations. Their fireworks are very much in demand at Nalbari and its adjoining districts. Apart from Diwali, the crackers of Bahjani are in demand for various other occasions. The artisans are busy trying to popularise the locally-made crackers in stiff competition against the cheap crackers from outside.
In Bahjani, Ma Aikon Bhandar, a popular cracker maker is all set to capture the Diwali market with their quality production. More than 20 people have been working in the factory of Ma Aikon Bhandar. The artisans are busy making crackers with names like �Rafale Aircraft�, �Pilot Avinandan�, �Ratnakar,� and �Bagh� to attract the buyers. They claim that the new brand of crackers will light up the sky with multiple colours on Diwali night. They also claimed that the new crackers can reach a height of nearly 100 feet, while their brightness too is exceptional.
They have already supplied the traditional crackers to markets in Guwahati, Baksa, Darrang, Goalpara, Rangiya, Mangaldai, Tezpur and various parts of Nalbari district. The traders will sell these crackers at Rs 300 per piece.
It may be mentioned here that the poor artisans of Bahjani area have been trying hard to compete against the cheap China-made fireworks. The absence of Government patronage to this traditional craft has complicated the situation.
