Baghjan well-killing will take 8 more weeks

GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today informed the State Assembly that the well-killing operation at the Baghjan blowout site will take another six to eight weeks. The minister also informed that a team of experts equipped with necessary machinery will soon arrive in the State.

Replying to a question raised during Zero Hour by Congress MLA Durga Bhumij, the minister said that the Chief Minister is constantly reviewing the situation at the blowout site and very soon things would be brought under control.

Patowary also assured the House that if any affected family has been left out from the list of beneficiaries, the State government would do the needful. He said the government will ensure that the affected population is not deprived of basic amenities and that the steps towards rebuilding and rehabilitation of those affected are being taken.

�The State government has instructed various departments to survey the affected area and the process of paying compensation has started as per the direction of the National Green Tribunal. So far, Rs 2.40 crore has been paid to the families whose houses were destroyed in the fire,� he said, adding that a one-time grant has also been paid to the affected.
