SILCHAR, Jan 25 - In a bid to provide land and financial assistance for construction of dwelling houses to the families of tea garden workers in Cachar district, the Chief Minister�s Bagan Ghar scheme was formally inaugurated by Minister of Sports and Transport Ajit Singh on Monday.
Singh also flagged off two buses under the Chief Minister�s Bagan Bus public service scheme from the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The buses will be available in Patimara-Matichera-Kumba-Tikolpar- Patichera-Ainachera route and in Thailu-Borthol-Dewan-Labak-Pailapool route.
It is to be mentioned that both the schemes were ceremoniously inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at Dibrugarh on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner S Viswanathan informed that as many as 967 beneficiaries from the tea gardens of Cachar district are being given the land patta and four buses have been allotted for Cachar district from a total of 200 buses across the State to facilitate the students in far off places to reach education institutes easily.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Singh said that it is a historical day for the people coming from the tea gardens of the district as no land patta was issued prior to the launching of the Chief Minister�s Bagan Ghar scheme. �The backward section will be largely benefitted with the schemes and the quality of education will improve,� Singh said. Later, while distributing the patta to the dwellers from the revenue circles, Singh cautioned them not to sell their land.
Susmita Dev, MP Silchar who also attended the meeting said that the long pending demand to allot land patta to the tea garden labourers has been materialised because of the positive efforts taken by the government. She reminded the patta recipients that �the land patta is given with the condition that no transfer of land will be possible at least for a period of ten years.�
