GUWAHATI, Sept 5 � The men�s singles champion in the inter district badminton championship will be presented Khanindra Kumar Baruah trophy along with a cash of Rs 10,000 from this year onwards.
Assam Badminton Association (ABA) secretary Omar Rashid said the State badminton body has decided to name the men�s singles trophy after Khanindra Kumar Baruah who was the former president of the ABA while the junior boys singles champion will receive Saranga Buragohain memorial trophy. Both the trophies have been donated by the family members of Baruah and Buragohain, Rashid said.
The announcement was made in the inaugural ceremony of the 59th All Assam Inter District Badminton Championship at Duliajan today. Over 250 players from all over the State are taking part in the meet where competitions will be conducted from U-10 to senior categories. The championship was inaugurated by DC Tinsukia, SS Minakshi Sundaram. Along with ABA officials Resident Chief Executive of OIL NK Agarwal and former player Asinta Nath were present in the opening ceremony.
