Badminton tourney held in city

GUWAHATI, March 16 - The badminton championship organised by the Beltola Puberun Sangha on their own premises here came to an end last evening with the final matches.

In the open doubles category, Ashim Roy-Bijoy Brahma duo won the title defeating Pankaraj Deori-Don Basumatary pair. The winning team received the Chinmoy Goswami memorial trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000. The runners-up pair was handed over the Dilip Das memorial trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000. Amit Saha-Ritubrata Paul became the second runners-up. They received the Gauri Sankar Medhi memorial trophy along with a cash or Rs 10,000.

In the veterans doubles category, Bishal Gupta and Priyam Bhuyan lifted the Utasabananda Goswami memorial trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 11,000 after emerging champions defeating Abhijit Gogoi and Abhijit Dutta. The runners-up team got Rs 6,000 and the Naren Das memorial trophy.

Altogether 60 teams from all over the State took part in the championship.
