Bad roads make life miserable in Dhubri

By A Correspondent

DHUBRI, July 23 - With the onset of monsoon, bad roads, unorganised traffic during the rush hours and the overflowing drains have made the life of Dhubrians miserable.

People residing in areas like Station Road, Bidyapara, Nuniapatty, New Market, NS Road, AK Azad Road, Charmain Road and its nearby areas are annoyed over the fact that they have been facing poor road conditions for a long time and due to faulty drainage system, waterlogging and flash floods occur even after a small shower.

The road condition is deteriorating day by day, said Ramjan Mollah, a local trader at Station Road, adding that after a shower, the condition gets worse, as the rainwater turns big potholes into pools on the road, becoming death traps for the commuters.

Prosenjit Sarkar, a government employee, said, Just after a brisk shower, the condition of the market areas becomes pathetic. As the drain system is not maintained, the entire market area gets submerged by water.

Apart from the bad road condition, traffic jams also adds misery to the life of Dhubrians, making it hard to travel freely, especially during the rush hours.

The road conditions are bad we understand, but why do we have to face traffic jams daily during the rush hours, asked Rehana Begum, a school teacher.

The people are facing problems of regular traffic jams particularly in Station Road, GTB Road and AK Azad Road.

While taking to this correspondent, the officials of the district administration said that necessary steps are being taken to improve the conditions of the road at the earliest. One of the main reasons of traffic jams is the high rise in the number of vehicles on roads, the officials said.
