Bad road stretch makes peoples lives miserable

By Correspondent

GOALPARA, Aug 1 - For more than a year now, the pathetic condition of a stretch of Goalpara-Solmari road, which is the entry point into Goalpara town, has remained the same. With the recent rains, it has now become unmotorable and accident-prone. The roads potholes and craters are filled with mud and water, making it dangerous for the commuters.

Meanwhile, the construction work for widening/strengthening of the existing road stretch of 7.90 km length under SARDP-NE phase A, job no SARDP-NE/Goalpara-Solmari/AS/PWD/2011-12/189 has been allotted to M/s Lohit Construction Pvt Ltd, Guwahati (vide order no NHR.38/2007/110 dt 13th July, 2020). The firm has been asked to complete the work by September 30 this year. However, the work has now been stopped due to Covid-19. Daily commuters expect that some temporary patchwork could have been done.

The AASU Goalpara unit also held a protest demonstration recently on the dilapidated stretch of road to draw the authorities attention to its dangerous condition.

It may be mentioned that all the main offices including those of the DTO, DEEO, Treasury office, the district court, DRDA office, the 200-bed civil hospital, KV, Handloom & Textile office, the post office, FCI godown etc., are situated around this stretch of the Goalpara-Solmari road.
