Back-striped weasel rescued

By CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, Sept 7 - A back-striped weasel was rescued by Rainforest Club Tamenglong (RCT) in Manipur recently.

The weasel was found at the residence of RCT member PR Kanamjuanliu. The infant weasel was examined for injuries and thereafter, a team of RCT members led by secretary Ramhiamang Gonmei released it in its natural habitat.

The back-striped weasel, also called the stripe-backed weasel, is widely distributed in South Eastern Asia.

The club expressed its gratitude to the rescuer and urged the people to cooperate and take part in conservation activities.

RCT, a Tamenglong-based non-profit organisation, was formed by a group of volunteers who have been actively involved in various social activities and campaigns related to conservation of environment and wildlife in the district.

In June this year, the RCT was officially recognised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) as the World Environment Day Hero.
