Baby sold by foster parents in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 13 � Manipur police have rescued a missing baby after a couple allegedly trafficked the baby to a childless couple after being transported from a child adoption placement agency.

According to Leima Nawa Yaiphakol, a child adoption placement agency, Kakching in Thoubal district, Chingtham Nandakishore and his wife Sorojini of Malom Tuliyaima village in Bishnupur district took away a nine-month-old baby girl from them on October 18 last year.

However, Nandakishore and his wife, instead of adopting the child, allegedly trafficked the child to one NA Wungnam and his wife, residents of Lamlang village in Ukhrul district. They also got Rs 11,000 in exchange for the baby.

This came to light during an investigation after a team of the child adoption placement centre made a surprise visit to BSNL employee Nandakishore�s Malom residence recently. �Afterwards, we requested the authorities concerned including the District Child Welfare Committee to rescue the baby�, social worker Romita of Leima Nawa Yaiphakol said when contacted.

As per the complaint, Kakching police personnel rescued the baby girl from the BSNL official quarters in Imphal recently. Nandakishore and his wife were also detained.
