Ayurvedic doctors job regularisation demanded

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 16 - The Ayurvedic Doctors Association, NHM, Assam, has urged the State government to regularise the jobs of over 500 doctors serving in rural areas.

In a statement, the association said that ayurvedic doctors have been providing services to the rural populace although they have not been given even the basic amenities, not to mention the meagre salaries they have been getting as contractual employees.

The ayurvedic doctors are facing a bleak future as they are working on minimal salaries. They have been providing dedicated services including OPD, Emergency, etc., to the masses. Many rural healthcare centres are functioning with ayurvedic doctors alone, the association said. It added that many ayurvedic doctors have already crossed the age of applying for other jobs and therefore, feel totally insecure.

The State government should create regular posts of ayurvedic doctors under the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Many other states have already started the process of regularising the jobs of such doctors, it said.
