AYP demands apology from National Geographic

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 The Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP) today demanded an un-conditional apology from the television channel National Geographic for telecasting a distorted documentary film titled The Mighty Ahoms. The TV channel telecast the documentary on September 3.

The Yuba Parishad said in a statement here said that the television channel should apologise to the people of Assam for deliberately maligning Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha and the other Swargadeos of the dynasty he founded, and presented a wrong impression on their times.

Swargadeo Sukapha was instrumental in formation of the greater Assamese nationality. But in the documentary film an inebriated person was shown commenting that he has no knowledge of Sukapha. This person also wondered as to who was Sukapha and said that Osama Bin Laden was more known to him, alleged the Yuba Parishad.
