AWWA commemorate 50 years

TEZPUR, Aug 24 - The Army Wives� Welfare Association (AWWA) at 4 Corps here commemorated 50 golden years of �Sharing and Caring� with a focus on skill development of soldiers� families.

As part of its golden jubilee celebrations nationwide, the AWWA here commemorated the occasion with events focused on the empowerment of wives of the serving and retired soldiers of the Indian Army and �Veer Naris� � wives of the nation�s martyrs.

The three-day event that concluded today also featured various socio-cultural activities such as motivational talks and lectures highlighting contemporary issues and women�s rights, a defence release said.

The association dedicated to the social cause of welfare of the families of the serving and retired soldiers of the Indian Army, the sources said.

On the occasion, the zonal president AWWA felicitated 31 Veer Naris from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh providing them assistance and guidance on various social benefit schemes offered by the State and Central Governments.

The golden jubilee event started off with a �Rise and Shine, Walk Divine� walk by the wives of officers, Junior Commissioned Wives (JCOs) and jawans of Tezpur Military Station focusing on health awareness being at the core of women empowerment.

A medical camp for women offering facilities for their blood group tests, eye and dental checkup, breast and cervical cancer tests was also held at Gajraj (4 Corps) Base Hospital. � PTI
