Awareness rally on blood donation

HAILAKANDI, Oct 3 - On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day on October 1, a rally was taken out at Hailakandi town in the morning with banners and placards.

It was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Barun Bhuya. Organised by the Hailakandi district branch of the Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors� Forum, the rally was attended by the members of various non-governmental organisations and citizens.

It can be mentioned here that the theme of this year�s World Blood Donor Day was �blood donors bring a ray of hope - be a regular blood donor�.

Later a blood donation camp was organised in collaboration with the Tata Motors in Vichingcha area of Hailakandi.

As many as 19 persons donated blood in the camp. It was collected by a team of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. An awareness meeting was also held on the occasion on the premises of the camp and it was presided over by the president of the Hailakandi committee of the forum, Dr Paritosh Chandra Dutta.

It was addressed by the Joint Director of Health Services in Hailakandi, Dr Shilbhadra Hagjer, Sanjib Dey of Tata Motors, secretary of the forum, Sudarshan Bhattacharjee, mediaperson Sankar Choudhury, S Bhattacharjee, social worker Abdul Jalil Barbhuiya, Dr B Narzary, among others.

All of them highlighted the benefit of donating blood for saving the lives of others. They also stressed the need of creating awareness among the common people in this regard.

At Golaghat: The World Blood Donor Day was observed at Municipality Conference Hall, Golaghat, in association with Assam State AIDS Control Society and Blood Bank, KK Civil Hospital, with various programmes.

A public rally was also taken out at Golaghat town to spread awareness about blood donation. A public meeting was held under the president ship of Dr Sribatcha Goswami, former joint-director, health services, Golaghat, and was addressed by Dr NK Pegu, as the chief speaker.

The other persons who spoke about the significance of the day were Upen Dutta, a senior journalist, Biren Sarma, an educationist, Rajoshree Bora of BJP Mohila Morcha, Nirda Buragohain, former principal DR College, among others. The speakers had underlined the importance of blood donation.

Dr Jyanta Kumar Borgohain, in-charge of Blood Bank, KK Civil Hospital, also spoke on the occasion. The meeting was attended by Nizora Devi, Superintendent of the KK Civil Hospital and Dr T Hussain, Deputy Superintendent.
