GUWAHATI, Dec 26 In the backdrop of increased instances of sexual harassment of women in the country and recent Acts passed by the government to ensure the safety of women, the Royal Group of Institutions today organized an awareness programme on sexual harassment at workplace.

Special invitees on the occasion were, MA Ali, member secretary, Assam State Legal Services Authority and Pallavi Baruah of the NGO Utsah.

The year 2013 could be termed as the year of the Indian women for two important laws Criminal Law (Amendment) Act and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act. Despite these acts being in place, each crime reported after these acts further outraged an already indignant nation by highlighting institutional apathy that people expected would be checked in this charged environment, mentioned a statement.

A power point presentation was also made to sensitize people and highlight the preventive measures, before a redressal is initiated. An interactive session was also organized on the occasion.
