Awareness programme on women-centric schemes held

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 - A programme on awareness cum distribution of stickers regarding Women Helpline 181, Sakhi- One Stop Centre and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme among the members of transport associations of the city was held at the District Social Welfare Office, Beltola here today.

The programme was organised by the Kamrup Metro District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with the District Transport Office, Kamrup Metro under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.

The district administration and the District Social Welfare Office have developed stickers regarding Women Helpline 181, Sakhi- One Stop Centre and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme for pasting on buses, cabs, autos and other commercial vehicles in Kamrup Metro district to create awareness among public.

Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma already inaugurated the stickers on the occasion of National Girl Child Day held on January 24 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium, Kalakshetra here.

Due to the coronavirus induced lockdown across the State, the programme of pasting stickers in the district was postponed.

The programme of pasting of stickers on vehicles has also been carried out jointly by the District Social Welfare Office, the District Level Centre for Women and the District Transport Office, Kamrup Metro district in which the members of transport associations participated.

It has planned to cover 1,000 city buses, 500 autos and 10,000 cabs in the district under the programme.

Kunjalata Lachon, District Social Welfare Officer, elaborated the purpose of the programme with a focus on girl child and their safety. She also stressed the importance and role of Women Helpline 181 and Sakhi-One Stop Centre through which any distressed women can avail services like legal aid, counselling, shelter, etc.

Bapan Kalita, District Transport Officer, delivered a speech with special focus on the importance of participation of every member of the society to create awareness among public regarding the women safety related services provided by the government through various schemes and programmes such as women helpline, one stop centre, Beti Bacaho Beti Padhao Scheme, etc.

Kalita also requested the members of transport associations to extend their support in execution of works related to pasting of stickers on public vehicles.
