Awareness prog on health, hygiene for girl students organised

MORIGAON, May 1 - An awareness programme on menstrual hygiene and skill development was held here at Morigaon Girls HS School on April 30 under the auspices of District Health Society, Morigaon. The awareness programme saw participation of senior officials of Health, Education, Labour and Employment departments of the district.

Inaugurating the programme, Rituraj Bora, Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon said that the government of Assam has taken a number of measures for a clean and healthy environment for girls. �The girl students generally encounter several problems at the time of puberty and for their healthy growth, menstrual hygiene is an important subject, the Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon added. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tilak Saikia, Inspector of Schools, Morigaon said that for an all-round development of girls students, the State Education department has taken steps to install toilets in every school.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Rohini Borkotoki, Joint Director, Health, underscored the need for organising orientation camps among the girl students about health and hygiene.

Dr Rekha Bhuyan, Medical Officer, Morigaon Civil Hospital dwelt at length about various measures to be taken by girl students during the puberty period.

On the skill development front, Principal, Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Morigaon presented a detailed report about various vocational schemes and courses for the girls. The ICICI Bank has provided a low-cost sanitary pad programme to girl students in Morigaon district and its effort was lauded by the Deputy Commissioner.
