Awareness meeting on NRC held

GUWAHATI, July 25 - An awareness meeting on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was conducted at Sonapur Higher Secondary School today by the Kamrup (Metro) district administration in association with Sonapur Police Station.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Virendra Mittal, Additional DC KC Pegu, Additional DCP of East Police District A Basumatary, Circle Officer of Sonapur Z Yasmin, leading citizens, gaonburhas and presidents and secretaries of VDPs under Sonapur Police Station. A large number of people attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Mittal appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony and not to panic if someone�s name is not included in the final draft of NRC.

He said that people would get ample chance to stake claims for inclusion of their names in the NRC in case any name is missing in the draft.

There are 14 NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) under the Sonapur revenue circle.

Later in the evening, a district-level review meeting on draft publication of the NRC was held here with Mittal in the chair. Senior officials of the district administration and staff of 78 NSKs from across the district were present at the meeting.
