Awareness generated on creative literature

DIBRUGARH, Aug 17 - The Sahitya Akademi and Dibrugarh District Lekhika Samaroh Samiti jointly organised a �Gramalok� programme in collaboration with the Samiti�s Borborooah branch at Barbarua Rameswar Higher Secondary School on Saturday.

The �Gramalok� programme of Sahitya Akademi is about creating awareness among the rural people regarding creative literature. The programme was presided over by Dipti Gogoi Saikia. Dr Bharati Dutta, president of Dibrugarh district Lekhika Samaroh Samiti in her brief speech explained about the activities of the Samiti, while Renu Phukan, general secretary of the district committee, explained the purpose of the programme.

The participating members read out their self-composed short stories and poems and explained the morals of the short stories. Kripal Phukan recited his self-composed poems. Short stories depicting various problems of the society, including issues of women were appreciated by the audience.

Senior journalist Sarat Neog, Aarati Dey, Numali Phukan, Parul Baruah, writer Suresh Kalandi, Susen Gogoi and Minum Gogoi also spoke from among the audience, a release stated.

Some other distinguished members who attended the programme included Aradhana Dutta, Dr Pratashlata Buragohain, Jyoti Borgohain and Subanti Gogoi. Parul Baruah presented a Borgeet at the outset. Renu Phukan subsequently offered the vote of thanks, the release added.
